Bespoke Compendiums

From 1821-1825, John Young, Keeper of the British Institution for Promoting the Fine Arts in the United Kingdom, created a series of five catalogues enumerating the galleries of prominent aristocratic British collections including those of Sir John Leicester (1821), The Earl Grovesnor (1821), Sir Philip John Miles (1822), John Julius Angerstein (1823), and The Marquess of Stafford (1825). Each work was illustrated by the artist’s own etchings alongside which Young provided an intimate examination of the collector's relationship with their art.

Proper Provenance’s Bespoke Compendiums bring Young’s model into the twenty-first century, invoking the prominence and intimacy afforded to an elite few. Collectors once again have the opportunity to document the unique life of their collection upon the pages of a personalized, museum-quality catalogue published in leather, hardback, and/or electronic formats.
